Hello, I’m Sarah, or Mum, I am the cook, caretaker, and full-time food experimenter behind Healthy Canine Kitchen. After burning out in the world of Social Work, I traded in crisis calls for chopping boards and found my new mission much closer to home: keeping my two beloved French bulldogs happy, healthy, and well-fed. Both of my pups have sensitive tummies, Audrey has diagnosed IBS, which sent me down a rabbit hole of vet visits, research, experimenting, and recipe-creating. Now, I love to share what I’ve learned to help other pet parents navigate nutrition with confidence and love.
What began as a desperate mission to settle tummies has now turned into a full-blown obsession with home-cooked, safe, and nourishing meals for dogs. Every bag of kibble or fancy can of food seemed to send my two straight into tummy chaos. So, I did what any slightly unhinged, totally devoted dog mum would do: I tied on an apron and started experimenting with google, pots and pans, and home-cooked meals.
Somewhere between the bone broths, pumpkin purées, and endless batches of chicken-and-rice, I discovered a new passion: creating recipes that keep sensitive pups happy, healthy, and as a very odd add on: the perfect bowel movement. The ritual of putting Koji on to his mat and waiting for his poo each night to reassure myself that his bowels have not succumbed to IVDD, is a celebratory part of our nightly ritual where I calm down after the event is over and Koji gets a big dose of praise that he can’t really understand. Knowing that I have fed a big bowel or enjoyed healthy food and their systems are happy and calm brings great joy.
So now, nothing makes me happier than whipping up recipes that are simple, wholesome, and approved by the toughest food critics on four legs, or two legs in Koji’s case.
Through Healthy Canine Kitchen, I hope to share the recipes, tips, and lessons I’ve learned the messy, trial-and-error way.
If you believe that food is love, then you’ll feel right at home here. If you’re a fellow dog parent navigating food sensitivities, allergies, or just the desire to spoil your furry best friend with better food – welcome!
