Mum's Conjee: A Twist on the Classic Rice Porridge, for Dogs

Mum’s Conjee: A Twist on the Classic Rice Porridge

Posted on August 27, 2025August 27, 2025 by Sarah

Mumś Conjee is a fail safe recipe that I have used many many times when our two very sensitive tummies have been unwell. French Bulldogs often come with sensitive tummies and we have always been advised by our Vet to revert back to a bland chicken and white rice diet. I adapted this to make a nourishing porridge that aligns with the Vet recommendation, with a touch of their mum thrown in for comfort. It has not failed us yet, and is eaten with much delight, and kept down!!

Ready in 20 minutes
Serves 2 always hungry French Bulldogs

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of organic oats (rolled or quick cook is perfect!)
  • 2 tablespoons of cooked white rice (follow the cooking instructions on your favorite white rice. I use medium grain white rice)
  • 1 cup of Mum’s chicken broff (you can find the Bone Broth I use here: https://www.kojiandme.store/products/recovery-bone-broth-for-dogs)
  • 1 cup of filtered water (of course it is filtered, we don’t drink tap water. Mum’s Tip: If you don’t tell Audrey, then tap water is fine!)
  • 1 tablespoon of cooked mashed pumpkin
  • 2 level teaspoons of chia seeds
  • ¼ a teaspoon of linseed meal
  • ¼ teaspoon of blended pepitas

Preparation

  1. In a sauce pan or fry pan, add the chicken broff and water. Put the pan on a medium heat.
  2. Add the oats, rice, and chia seeds and simmer for ten minutes, stirring frequently to ensure the oats and rice do not catch on the bottom of the pan. Avoid rapid boiling.
  3. Once most of the liquid has evaporated and the mixture is smooth and silky, add the pumpkin, linseeds, and pepitas. Stir well.
  4. Serve in their favorite bowl with another half cup of cold water in each to cool the mixture. You may have to let it sit for a little while to reach the optimum serving temperature.
  5. Listen for the licks of delight, or in our case, the frenzy of heavy breath gulping as the conjee disappears in moments.
  6. An after meal snuggle and belly rub is compulsory with this conjee when our tummies are unwell.

Tips

  • I do not like to use very old rice. No more than 2 days after cooking is my rule.
  • If you do not have the Koji & me Recovery Broth, you can use any broth that your Veterinarian recommends and maybe add a small grating of ginger, no more than a pinch, to the mixture during the cooking phase 2 & 3.
  • Be cautious about commercial stock cubes as they can contain added salt, onion, or garlic.

Thank you for your time today,
